Dong Ho folk print
Good fortune
Printed on Diep paper
-----
According to Vietnamese folk beliefs, the rooster represents five virtues of an honourable man: wisdom (its red comb looks like the hat of the feudatory court); power (its spur looks like a sword for fighting against the enemy); courage (never surrender); benevolence (share food with others); and credibility (crowing to tell the time exactly).
Delivering good wishes for a new year, the print is considered to represent January, and it is usually hung in the front door as a prayer for good luck.
